Everybody knows that for speed and accuracy, there is no way to beat the amazing statistics produced by a modern compound bow. Even crossbows fitted with fancy optics and draw weights of two-hundred pounds or more struggle to match the performance of a current compound such as the Martin Firecat series, the Mathews Z-7 or any of the Elite lineup. But performance isn't everything, is it. Before you write off a traditional bow as being an old-fashioned relic, consider some of the advantages of a take-down recurve. First, for many of us of advancing age and perhaps other physical limitations, there is the question of carry weight. Even one of today's lightest compounds will weigh close to two kilograms or four pounds even before adding any accessories. This is a huge improvement over the six- and seven-pound monsters of just a few years ago but still miles heavier than the average three-quarters of a kilo (one and a half pound) weight of a recurve. Longbows are even lighter.
Then there is the problem with transporting a compound bow on any sort of public conveyance. Even a short compound is a bulky item, especially in a hard cow case as required by most airlines. A take-down recurve, however, will fit nicely in your luggage and even with a quiver full of arrows and all the accessories, it is still a small package when compared to any other form of hunting weapon. The Hawk does not come with sight, pressure button, or stabiliser bushings but these can be installed for a slight additional charge if you need them.
At 58 inches, the Hawk is slightly shorter than our standard 60-inch TD recurves, but this affords an important advantage in the bush as the longer limbs can make shooting awkward in tight quarters. Shorter limbs also reduce the possibility of the limbs tangling in the bush on the shot, a problem that most traditional hunters can relate to with sympathy. The limbs and riser of the Greatree Hawk are laminated from layers of hardwood overlaid with a layer of clear fibreglass laminate to show off the beauty of the natural wood. NZAP have the Greatree Hawk in 40, 45, 50, and 55 pound draw weights and in right or left hand. All sizes are not always in stock so it is best to ring or email for availability.
Here at NZAP we sell a lot of compound bows, in fact compound hunting bows make up the largest part of our market by far. However, we get particular delight in setting up a bowhunter, either someone new to the sport or a seasoned veteran, with a well-balanced and functional traditional bowhunting kit ready to head straight into the bush on either side of the Tasman. We believe that with over 100 years of combined experience with traditional bowhunting, the staff at NZAP have all the skills and knowledge required to get you into bowhunting with a recurve or longbow in a minimum of time and expense and with a maximum of probability of early hunting success.
With all this in mind, we are very excited about the new Hawk Recurve from Greatree Archery and have designed what we believe is the optimum combination of accessories to complement this new bow. The package outlined here is very similar to our very popular Deer Master package built around the Samick Deer Master recurve. However there are a few important differences. We have upgraded the arrows to Beman Bowhunters (or Easton Powerflights if you prefer) as these rugged carbon arrows have more than proven themselves when shot from a traditional bow. These come equipped with 125-grain field points and a matching set of Tusker broadheads (not included with the Deer Master set).
The Greatree Hawk take down starter set is designed to get you into the bush bowhunting with top-quality traditional-archery gear at the lowest price possible. The NZAP kit is built around the Greatree Hawk recurve, an excellent choice for a traditional hunting bow at any level of experience. As with all NZAP bow-package deals and starter kits, the components that we have selected are flexible so you can mix and match all you want and we will adjust the price accordingly while giving you the best possible deal.
